I am a recognized global HR & talent leader, board advisor, operator, and transformation executive. I have successful experience across consumer goods, technology, professional services, retail, hospitality, pharma, healthcare, and logistics. My experience ranges from high-growth early-stage to Fortune 100 firms.
Rustin is not available for consulting positions; however, he may consider certain Board positions.
Rustin Richburg may have been raised on a Texas cattle ranch, but he brings a global perspective to the HR and business teams he leads. He is currently Partner and Chief Talent Officer for L.E.K. Consulting, a global strategy consulting firm, and oversees all aspects of the employee and Partner experience. Richburg sits on the Out & Equal Board of Directors and serves as an advisor to Boards and HR technology firms.
Richburg previously held the position of Chief People Officer for BARK (NSYE:BARK), the direct to consumer dog subscription business, with responsibilities for all aspects of talent, Human Resources, corporate communications, real estate, and employee-facing IT.
Richburg led HR teams at Walton Enterprises, Inc., and the Walton Family Foundation. As Chief People Officer, Richburg headed up HR for the family office, investments, private equity, and philanthropic work of Sam and Helen Walton—the founding family behind Walmart and Sam’s Club.
Before joining Walton Enterprises, Richburg was Walmart’s Senior Vice President of Global HR Operations & Technology from 2016 and was named Senior Vice President, US People in 2017. Before joining Walmart, he held leadership roles at Imperial Brands and Accenture. Throughout his career, Richburg has worked in a wide range of industries, including technology, hospitality, healthcare, and logistics. He has also lived in and managed teams in North and South America, Europe, Africa, APAC, and the Middle East.
Richburg graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness. He also holds certifications in program management from the University of Washington and in conflict resolution from Cornell University. Richburg, his husband, and their two French Bulldogs live in the New York City area.

“Rustin is one of the few leaders I have been lucky enough to work with who has the unique skill to innovate and define an enterprise strategy, while also understanding practical operations. It is very rare to work with someone who has the full range of capabilities from strategic coach & advisor, to design-thinker, to execution-driven operator.” ~Senior HR Leader Walmart US
“Rustin is just as comfortable with high level strategy as he is with detailed execution. I had many interactions with Rustin where we discussed the strategic direction for HR, but he would frequently “swim down and touch the bottom of the ocean” on select topics to ensure the nuances of execution weren’t lost in the high-level thinking. It’s rare that an executive with a consulting background and a strong strategic mind constantly pressure-tests strategic direction with practical execution.” ~Senior Vice President Sam’s Club
"Rustin is one of the fortunate people to be right AND left brained. He can have great ideas AND make them happen, taking peopleon the journey with him with his warm and focussed style. He'sbeen wonderful to work with over the years, including winningmultiple awards for the work we've done together." ~Industry Leader
“I have worked with many different consultants during my career. Rustin stands out because of his ability to build relationships at multiple levels in the organization, solve business problems, and easily shift between high-level vision into very detailed operational rigor. I have seen Rustin’s unique skills first hand during my years of working with him. The reason I trusted Rustin so early in our working relationship was due to the questions he asked. They were strategic in nature, but precise and layered in detail. I had full confidence that Rustin appreciated the importance of translating strategy to executional detail. He rolled-up his sleeves and implemented.” ~Vice President HR Diageo
"Highly strategic and insightful in his perspective on business transformation and change management. I witnessed first hand how collaborative he is with his team and wider stakeholders. A great listener and developer of talent. This strong relationship management helps him to deliver results leveraging this wider team. It is impossible not to admire the passion, enthusiasm and positivity he brings to work every day." ~Senior HR Leader Walmart
"I have always found Rustin to be a leader that strives to stay close to the detail, to dive deep and audit frequently; he recognizes the need to stay connected with the execution. Whether this be through detailed walk throughs of processes, executing test scripts as part of system implementations or taking the time to engage with resources at all levels within the organization. The ability to operate across the spectrum from strategic thinking to rolling up his sleeves in the detail is one of the key skills behind Rustin's success." ~Senior HR Leader Imperial Brands
